Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

March 11, 2024 – Brisbane, Australia –  We were in Brisbane today – went to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and got our fill of animal encounters. We did an excursion with Royal. It took us on a tour of the city and then to the sanctuary where we were allowed to get up close and personal with Kangaroos and Koalas.  We were able to feed and pet the Kangaroos.  Did you know… when the first white settlers came to Australia they asked the indigenous people what the hopping animals were and the tribesman replied “Kang a roo” (not sure of the spelling) which meant “I don’t understand you.”  Would have liked to hold a Koala but they were all sold out of those opportunities – we did however get to pet one.  The strange looking blue headed bird is a Southern Cassowary.  Apparently they can eviscerate you in a heart beat!  The furry pig is a wombat.
